Leaside Atom Baseball – About Us

The Leaside Atom Baseball Association (LABA) provides the opportunity for players 9, 10, and 11 years of age to play House League baseball (hardball) at Trace Manes Park in Leaside.

In 1953 the LABA was launched by community volunteers as a Parks and Recreation program, originally as part of the Town of Leaside, then in 1967 within the Borough of East York, and finally under the City of Toronto since Amalgamation in 1998.

As an umbrella program of the Leaside Baseball Association at Talbot Park and under the overall jurisdiction of Baseball Ontario, the LABA is a House League program for players of all levels of experience, emphasizing the basics of baseball skill, the necessity and value of teamwork, good sportsmanship, and just having fun.

Games are scheduled weeknights and Saturdays in May and June, and then continue with playoffs after Labour Day for 2 - 3 weeks in September.

The program historically includes 8 to 10 teams per season, peaking at 12 with JAYS fever in 1992 and 1993. Each team is comprised of 14 or 15 players, balanced by age. Every player is listed in the batting order each game and is guaranteed to play a minimum of 50% of the innings in the field.

Leaside Atom Baseball is a strong example of community involvement. The program continues to be run entirely by volunteers: executive, coaches, and senior umpires, most of whom have been part of the program for a long time. Many of these members started as players and then returned later in life to give their time back to the program in various roles, reflecting their belief in its value and their commitment to keeping it strong.

Throughout the years the LABA has appreciated the generous support given by many local small businesses, provided to the program through annual team sponsorship.

Hope you will join us at Trace Manes Park this Spring.
